BORIS SAID--NASCAR, TRANS-AM AND SPORTS CAR DRIVER--JOINS THE RIVERSIDE MOTORSPORTS PARK PROJECT IN MERCED COUNTY, CALIF.

 

ATWATER, Calif., January 7, 2008--Riverside Motorsports Park, LLC (RMP) announces that Boris Said, the internationally popular oval and road course race car driver, has agreed to oversee design and development of the championship kart course for the Riverside Motorsports Park project, which is in development in Merced County, Calif.  In addition to his multi-faceted racing career, Boris Said is a co-founder and partner in K1 Speed (K1), an indoor karting company, based in Carlsbad, Calif., and having five facilities in operation in California and Washington State.  The RMP kart course design will feature a world-class, championship 3/4-mile track which can be segmented into multiple smaller tracks for regional and club-based competition events.
 
“I’ve been a huge fan and a shareholder in Riverside Motorsports Park since 2004 because I really believe in this project,” commented Boris Said.  “California needs new motorsports facilities.  RMP’s design, layout and multi-track access for race fans is simply the best in the world.  My NASCAR and other business commitments have kept me extremely busy, but I have always wondered how I could get more involved in the RMP project.  This is a great way for me to participate.  Developing an internationally competitive kart track is going to be a lot of fun.”
 
Added RMP CEO John Condren, “Boris is well known as a driver’s driver.  He’ll race anything with wheels on it, and, given the fact that he’s raced bobsleds and snowmobiles, too, well, it’s clear he loves a good challenge. I know that he’ll integrate that sense of challenge into the design of the Riverside Motorsports Park kart course.  We are really excited about having Boris as part of the team.  He personifies the “out-of-the-box” thinking that’s characteristic of the entire Riverside Motorsports Park project.”
 
Boris Said joins a team of motorsports notables on the Riverside Motorsports Park design team.  As previously announced, Formula-1 and Indy 500 veteran Derek Daly will be developing the layout and design for the RMP road course, and NASCAR Champion Rusty Wallace will oversee development of the park’s oval speedway.  Paxton Waters, renowned motorsports architect and track designer for multiple racing facilities, has been the architect for the RMP project since 2004. 
 
First announced in 2003, the Riverside Motorsports Park project received project approvals from Merced County (Calif.) in December 2006.  A motorsports-themed, family recreation and entertainment center, Riverside Motorsports Park will be the world’s largest motorsports facility, once completed. The facility will include eight racing venues, 15 race tracks, retail shopping and a 650,000 square foot commercial motorsports complex on 1,200 acres adjacent to Merced County’s Castle Airport, which has the third longest runway in the State of California. 
 
ABOUT BORIS SAID
Boris Said currently drives the #60 SoBe No Fear Energy Drink Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  His NASCAR career began in 1995 as a 'Road Course Ringer' primarily due to his extensive Trans-Am and road-racing experience.  Highlights of his road racing career include victories in the 1997 and 1998 24-Hours of Daytona and 1998 12-Hours of Sebring.  He also became the first American to win the 24-Hours of Nürburgring in 2005, driving a BMW M3 GTR.  Boris made his NASCAR debut in 1995 in the Craftsman Truck Series at Sears Point International Raceway (now Infineon Raceway).  He made his NASCAR Cup debut in 1999 at Watkins Glen.  Under contract with Evernham Motorsports to help the team's road course program in 2006, he won the pole at Mexico City, and finished second.  In May 2006, Said and his crew chief Frank Stoddard and Mark Simo announced the creation of No Fear Racing, which utilizes equipment from Roush Racing.
