Dave Byrd won the track title at Altamont Motorsports Park last season, and he figures it won't take long to get reacquainted with the half-mile oval when he returns Saturday.

Byrd will race in the WestCar Series event at Altamont. The program begins at 5 p.m.

Byrd, who has amassed 14 track titles and more than 200 career wins, won his second late model title at Altamont in 2006. He now competes in two touring series: WestCar and the StockCar Racing League's Wild West Shootout.

"I'm really looking forward to coming back to Altamont," Byrd said. "It's a track I've been successful at and I know it well. It's always good to come back."

He won the SRL race at Madera Speedway Saturday, and he hopes to continue his good fortune in a different car. Byrd is driving this season for Modesto car owner Bob Strandwold.

Byrd has been one of the most competitive and successful drivers in California over the past quarter of a century. He has won titles in stock cars and on open-wheel cars, and on dirt and asphalt.

He knows how to put together a winning racing program, and said he's confident he will be successful with Strandwold.

"I think we have a great chance to fare well in both series, because of Bob's equipment," Byrd said. "We're fast, and I'm getting used to the cars and the team. I know we're going to be fast."

The Western Late Model, American Limited Stock Car and Grand American Modified divisions will also compete on Saturday.
