Stockton 99 repaving is set

Stockton 99 Speedway is getting a facelift today.

Track promoter Tony Noceti said the quarter-mile asphalt oval will be completely repaved, and will be ready for NASCAR racing to resume at 6 p.m. Saturday. The track closed after the 2006 season and reopened in March, and Noceti tried to patch up the existing track.

"We were trying to put it off until next year, but the poor old girl was falling apart," Noceti said. "It had weeds pushing through it for two years, and we were repairing it every week."

All practice sessions have been cancelled this week to let the new surface settle in.

Saturday's program includes Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, Street Stocks and Bombers. The first leg of the Tri-Holiday Classic is May 23, featuring a 150-lap WLM race.
