Madera, Calif. — Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Shootout invaded Madera Speedway Saturday, August 9th for round number seven of the ten race series. David Philpott of Tracy, California crossed the checkered first, followed by current point’s leader Ron Strmiska Jr., Jeff Belletto third, Rick Ruzbarsky fourth, and Mike Doss Fifth.

Sonora’s Nathan Tucker set fast time with a lap of 14.72 seconds around “The Fastest Third Mile in The West”. Jeff Belletto was right behind Tucker with a lap of 14.72 seconds. Ken Boyd of Ceres, California qualified third, with Cory Petero fourth, and rookie Mike Doss fifth.

“We hit the setup pretty close tonight, we changed four springs, and the sway bar during practice. It’s been awhile since I’ve won” Said race winner David Philpott.

“It was another good night for us, we did a lot better here this time. I never really could get close enough to challenge him (Philpott), but I’m happy with second.” said Ron Strmiska Jr.

A six car invert put Napa, California driver Joey Zampa on the pole for the 100 lap feature. Mike Doss of Lakeport started on the outside of row one, and took the lead on the first lap. Tracy Bolin and Nathan Tucker made contact coming out of turn four on lap four. Tucker was able to continue as the caution flagged waved, but Bolin was not as fortunate, as he suffered front end damage.

David Philpott was on his way to the front from his 12th place starting position. On lap seven Philpott got by Strmiska for sixth, and one lap later, he passed Petero for the fifth position.

On lap ten, Ripon’s John Gaalswyk lost a motor going into turn one. Gaalswyk, Harold Rieker, Ray Lawson Jr., and Chris Wadsworth were all caught up in the slippery track surface. A red flag was thrown so track officials could clean up debris on the racing surface.

Ken Boyd made his way around Mike Doss on lap 29, to take the lead coming out of turn four. Philpott continued his charge to the front, and on lap 34 he passed Jeff Belletto. On the next lap Philpott also got by Mike Doss.

Joel Theisen spun on lap 36 to bring out another caution. Boyd led Philpott, Doss, Belletto, and Strmiska. Strmiska then passed Belletto to take over the fourth position, on his way to the front. On lap 45 Rookie Ryan Foster spun in turn three, but he was able to continue the race and finish tenth.

Cory Petero gave up his sixth place position on lap 46, as he headed to the pits for a mechanical failure. Just after Petero pitted, race leader Ken Boyd started smoking, and then pulled into the pits on lap 51.

Philpott inherited the lead with Boyd off track. Strmiska passed Doss for second on lap 57 coming out of turn four, for second position. From there on out, it was all Philpott, with Strmiska second, Jeff Belletto third, Tracy’s Rick Ruzbarsky fourth, and Mike Doss fifth.

Pole sitter Joey Zampa came home sixth, while Tim Stratmeyer finished seventh. Jeff Anthony who won at Altamont Raceway Park last week, came home in the eight position. Nathan Tucker finished ninth, and Ryan Foster tenth.
