Here's the Action packed Stockton 99  TV ad, it'll take awhile to load, be patient!

To All the Stockton 99 Speedway Family, Fans and Greater Racing Community,
I'm saddened to have to inform you that our dear friend, Historian, announcer and statistician extraordinaire JIM SHIELS passed away at 3:15 PM today December 23, 2002. His wife Jo was with him at Mercy Dominican in Merced. He passed peacefully with no pain.

He will be sorely missed, he was the "father of this web page", keeper and organizer of all 99 stats and he truly loved the Speedway and all of us. His tireless quest of keeping every bit of information up to date was unbelievable. I don't think we understand how extraordinary this was with his health the way it was. I can't remember him missing a deadline, no matter what.

I will miss my friend, and the Speedway will miss our tireless over-achiever. We send our Love to Jo and their family and rejoice because Jim is at peace.

New Racer
I just moved to Lodi and I have a 72 Olds Cutlass Pure Stock that raced at Antioch a couple of years ago. I planned on racing next year at All American Speedway, but since I moved here I would like to race at 99. I have a couple of questions. My car is setup to run on dirt and I have wire screen for a windshield, can I run with this or do I have to have glass/Lexan? What kind of tires do you run, street tires or recapped slicks?? What changes might there be for next year??? Any help would be appreciated..... I'm also looking for some parts. I need a coil spring rear end and a pre metric front disc brake setup....

Great Program!
I am an Alabama boy living in Brentwood who grew up watching future legends race at the Birmingham International Raceway. I watched racing for some 30 years there (5/8 mile oval) and thought that there could be no better short track racing anywhere. I moved from Alabama to Brentwood in 1995 and have just started to attend racing events again. I just want you to know that I have found the program at Stockton 99 to be better than any short track program I've seen in the south and am happy to say that I plan to continue coming often. Your program is wonderful and please keep up the excellent work!

But fasr as all get out and fun to watch.Try2 to 25 cars with the fastest in the rear. Also give the WLM some time they well be as good if not better the the LM.Also do you guys need any help on the saftey crew
Dean Gray

Below is the answer to the question below, from our track statistician and historian, Jim Shiels:
Years ago Whitey showed me the paperwork from the dept. of weights & measures that showed the track as a "True quarter-mile" with the measurement taken down the middle.  Don Monaco of Modesto (Past Late Model driver in the early 80's) paid for the measurment to be made in order to claim a "Guiness world book of records" quarter mile track record for his motorized bar-stool (both standing start & rolling start) that shows in my track history pages somewhere.

what is the size?
Hi,
Is Stockton a 1/4 or 1/3 mile? Is that from the inside or the outside?
Thanks
Glenn
We've always said a 1/4 mile. I believe from the inside of the track.
Is that right guys?
Stockton99speedway.com
Cool, that is what I thought but one of my guys on the team was saying it was a 1/4 on the outside. I didn't think that was possible. Thanks man

Glenn

2003 Plan

Are the good old late models due back to the track?   The WLM are just not the same and almost like a triple league ball team.  Please don't tell me that someone has been thinking about "spec" motors too......That is not racing at all if that would be the case, just leave it as it is.
I go back to the days of the super modifieds like McCoy, Sanchez, and the like.  Late models have come too far to be set aside.
Thank you for the new lights and I guess new PA system...the speakers along the fence still need to be upgraded.
How about moving the track and enlarging it, has that ever been in the plan for 99?
In spite of it all, thank you for all of your work and the great web site.
Oh yes, the Winston West was a great race and turn out for fans.
 Rich Berg
p.s.  Bruce Cunningham does a terrific job for the track.

Rich,
The fastest McCoy went in 1965 was a track record of 15.65! The Western Late Models track record is 14.114 by Harry Belletto. A record that will fall shortly I'm sure.
The SRL Late Models will be at the track Sept 14 and Sept 28 for the finale!
I agree with you about the super modifieds, I particularly liked Donnie Hickman's lime green winged car, Fred Hunts Orange 8 ball and Tony Queirolo's #100 and of course Johnny Brazil. That had to be our golden age.(If anyone has any color or black and white photos, I'd like to put them on the History section of the web page. (Click here to see the Modifieds)
The new lights are unbelievable and the PA really kicks, I think Wayne Pierce is doing a great job.
As for moving the track.....it's been there for 57 years, can't beat the location or the four separate turns. To enlarge it, I mentioned it to a Winston West Official, he said, "What the world doesn't need is another 1/2 mile track!" I think the Winston West race proves we can have top notch, high level races, you're right it was a great race!
And yes we're lucky to have all the officials and workers who put in countless hours to put on our shows every week, even Bruce Cunningham!
Thanks for the note Rich, see you at the track.

Great Job

Webmaster,

You do a great job keeping this up and running, I love popping in and checking my stats and seeing how the cars finished.

One Problem this week, when I try to go to Next Show August 31, 2002, I am sent to the 2002 Schedule. Is there anything special about the August 31 race track plans?

Keep up the good work.

Carolyn Diehl
I'm there every week that the Hot Wood Western Late Models are racing.

August 31 is special...Tri-Holiday foe Western Late Models, BCRA/USAC final Midget race for Championship and our exciting Pure Stocks!

good racing
It was a great night of racing with the Winston West cars and our own Western Late Models. Possible some of the very best racing all year was the WLM.s Chris Monez and Wes Miller going side by side for a number of laps and not taking each other out. I hope all the other drivers where able to see that because I know the fans really enjoyed that kind of racing. GREAT JOB GUYS !!!!!!!!!

Mon 8/12/02 8:30 PM

Hey guys I've ben going to stockton 99 speedway for years. And I would like to know to start racing at the track? I talked to Willed Wayne at the county fair. And he said that all i need is a car. But there is one problem. I can't affored a car to race! I can guarantee that I would do good as a racecar driver but I need a car to drive. So I was would like to know what I should do? By the way I'll be 15 in September. The reason why I e-mailed you is because Wayne said that you were starting a junior leauge. Wayne should remember me because I was with Tammy and we got to sit in the racecar. You ca e-mail me at silva_tony at msn.com. Please let me know if anyone is looking for a driver. Or if you know a way for me to fore fill my dreams as a racecar driver.
See you at the track !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                                             Anthony

my most memorable race
My most memorable race was when Ken Boyd won his 6th Championship. His rival was the 0 car and he crashed and when he crashed Ken was able to take the Championship. Thanks for the great racing.

Michael Valadez [nasflex8@hotmail.com]
can street cars race there ?

i just wanted to know if street cars can race there and if ya please let me know when thanks for your help
mike

Sounds like fun Mike but all our racer's are NASCAR licensed and each division has it's own set of standards for the cars. Can you imagine if a street car ran into the wall, all the glass and the danger..... NASCAR has used it's long history to come up with the safety standards that are used today.  Street cars are for the street. Look below, you can buy a race car....go for it!!!!

looking forward to coming to Stockton.

i been looking over your web site and me my girlfriend and a couple teenagers plan to see the southwest featherlites, we are big fans of Kenny shepherds, we saw him at sears point , Madera , now we are planning to come to Stockton on the 17th of august, your track looks great and we a real excited about the little road trip, we are in Clovis Calif, I just have one question, could tell me how to get tickets on line or where we can buy them, and most important, how much will it be for the 17th? ,we love racing after all who could be a better role model for kids than NASCAR drivers, after all who's going to let some one, in recovery drive your car !!!!! I am sending you a pic of one of those role models, he is a really great guy, with a super pit crew that does  mind spending a few moments with his fans . please send me some info ASAP, as well where would like to know where the race fans like to go. we don't hit Stockton to often .? thanks bobby

Hi...Was wanting to let you know that I visit your site often, and think it is great! The recent photo spread of the Monster trucks is awsome! Thanks for that! I also was wanting to ask if anyone in the area who may be reading this would have a 1983 Nascar Record Book press guide that has listings of the Winston West drivers. If so, and you would be interested in selling it to me, please don't hesitate to write me at hotgmc@finestplanet.com Thanks again Webmaster! You are great!

Thanks Mom!!! I will be adding a current Winston West Page, just like the SWT and Regional Points pages soon.

From asphalt to the dirt track....Hi my name is Phil Pearson, born and raised there in Stockton, California. I was raised on this 1/4 mile Stockton 99 Speedway, and now a top 10 contender at our 3/8 mile high-banked dirt track at Enid Motorspeedway in Enid, OK. I grew up with several of your drivers from my home town in Stockton, Jeff Thomas, Ernie Irvin, Ron Straminska, Jerry Short. We build all our own cars from ground up, our team name is Pearson Motorsports, presently I drive car #77 Pro Stock which is equivilent to your late models except for the windshields. We also race a class called street stock, which has a several $10,000 to win programs in all the surrounding states Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas. I understand that there is a driver that is entered in the $10,000 race at Enid, OK from Modesto, CA. We would like to invite other drivers from your area to our $10,000 Street Stock show in September. If you need any information you can e-mail me at pop@pldi.net or www.enidmotorspeedway.net. I also work for Axiom Craftsman Truck #46, and I was the one that put that new shiny paint jobs on the trucks. Thanks! E-mail me back. P.S. - My son is one of the track officials at Enid Motorspeedway.

I am a current subscriber to the Lodi News Sentinel. I am also a NASCAR fan. I enjoy all NASCAR including local racing at Stockton 99 Speedway. I am very disappointed in the lack of coverage you have provided for these local races. As you probably know, Stockton 99 Speedway features very high quality, professional and family-oriented racing on a regular basis and also hosts the Southwest Tour and the Winston West series, both of which are high-dollar racing series that feature the top racers on the west coast including names such as Andretti. The regular racing schedule speaks for itself as it includes Grand American Modifieds, Pure Stocks and, as its premier division the Western Late Models which provide by far the highest level of local racing available anywhere (I have also lived in southern California and attended local racing there). A large number of the regular drivers and fans of the track are also Lodi area residents. I am sure these people would all enjoy complete coverage of the races at the speedway. The Stockton Record and the Modesto Bee have always provided excellent coverage of the races over the years. When I read the Lodi News Sentinel, if I find coverage of the races at all, the article is very short (only a few lines) and only names the finishing positions of the Lodi and Galt drivers. The races at Stockton 99 Speedway are truly worthy of much more than a few lines of coverage. How can we get better coverage? *******************************************************************
Thanks for the great letter. The best way is to contact the Lodi Paper and let them know how you feel. Also have a few hundred of your closest friends call also. Thanks again, see you at the track! Stockton99speedway.com

rookie status-western late model.
I was wondering who is considered a rookie this year and the point standings are if the is a rookie of the year race, also isn't everybody considered a rookie it is a brand new division.

Interesting concept! I'm just guessing but anyone who's new to Late Models would be a rookie.

Missing Stockton 99
Due to business concerns we moved from California to Texas in December of 2001. We miss the great races that we were able to attend almost every Sat. Night at Stockton 99 for about 8 years and enjoyed every race. We have been attending a few races in the Fort Worth area but your Track, schedule and racers are top notch. Congratulations to Danny Contessotto on leading the points. We will keep up with the results of the races on line.

I WAS READING THE STOCKTON RECORD TODAY AND THEY SAID THE GAM MAIN WAS CUT OFF EARLY DUE TO A TIME LIMIT. WHEN DID YOU START WITH A TIME LIMIT? I THINK ITS NICE TO GET OUT OF THE TRACK EARLY, BE IN BED AT A DECENT HOUR. HOW DO YOU FIGURE THE AMOUNT OF TIME? WHAT ABOUT THE 100 LAPPERS? DO YOU TIME THE HEATS AND DASHES TOO?

A CURIOUS FAN, BRANDON
Thanks for asking Brandon. The time limit has always been in effect. We want our fans to see the whole show, and if the time runs out then the race will be checkered yellow.

Car 555, who was he?
When I was 5 years old my father started taking me to the races. While we lived in Lodi, we attended the races at the 99 speedway for five years. There was a driver with the number 555 that was racing there during that time. Now think way back,,,to the years 1957 to 1962. What was his name? Does he have any sons or daughters racing today? By the way, I have been going to the 99 speedway last year and this year again. I don't attend every week but, I do for some of the big events and an occasional regular week. We liked the Featherlite 150 and we were there last night. John Nies,,living in Oakley now.

I think you're referring to Charlie Sanchez, and his family is still around town! See our history pages, click here.

Great job getting the program done early the last few weeks. It's really nice getting home early, despite all the cautions this past week. Imagine how early we would have been home if we went caution free!! See ya on Saturday.

MAy 25, 2002 Pure Stock Race
I find it very interesting that the Pure Stock A Main was the only event that went all laps with no yellow flag.  The battle between Chad Holeman and Danny Gabor went to another level last night as Chad Holeman proved to be the superior driver in what turned out to be the best race of the night. I believe the Pure Stock Drivers don't get the recognition they deserve, but do appreciate the fact that there is money for the winner in the Main, after all a large majority of the fans come out every week to see the Pure Stock Division.

Your new look
I attended your facility this last weekend and I am totally impressed with what you have done.  The lighting is great, and the support you get from your fans is remarkable.  What is your secret?
Without giving too much away, I attend another racetrack quite frequently, and I had the sudden urge to see your improvements.

Keep up the good work,  I know that the drivers really appreciate what you have done for them.

Sincerely

A far fan

I was visiting the stockton99speedway.com website in search of information on the Lloyd Beard Classic (which used to be held each Memorial Day Weekend at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds). Can you tell me, does this race still exist and if so, is it run at the Stockton 99 Speedway?

RE: Pure Stocks
Jim, The reason we do not allow powerglide transmissions in any pure stock is the availability of an extreme amount of aftermarket parts. This trans. is to easy to lighten and build with very high dollar aftermarket parts that would give ANYONE running it a unfair competitive advantage. And since we have such an extremly low number of cars that compete, that actually came with this trans. in stock production we disallow its use entirely.

My thanks to all of you who are e-mailing and calling about my recent trip to the emergency room with breathing problems. Now quit doing so, as it leaves no time for me to play FreeCell on my computer.

Although the emergency room Doctor, my G.P., and my Oncologist all said it was a mild heart attack, I personally believe it was VAPOR LOCK. Now I can add a few trips to a heart Doctor to my already long list of weekly Doctor visits. And don't forget...one more co-pay out of the old pocket.

I have made up my mind that after losing a leg due to diabetes, colon cancer surgery and chemo treatments, and now heart problems, that I am going to donate my body to medical science...just to know I set them back at least 50-years. Serves em right.

See ya all at the SRL event this Saturday. Odds are on Strmiska...wanna bet ?

Pure Stock Division
In your Pure Stock Division rules, you state for the Transmission "Production transmission for model year of vehicle..no powerglides.." The Power Glide Transmission was standard equipment for the 1968 Chevelle. The 1968 power glide came "stock" in 1968. By running a different type, the vehicle would no longer be "pure stock"...

Would you please clarify this rule for me.

Thank you...."Giant" Jim Moore, Giantwon@aol.com

This has been forwarded to Ron Greenmeyer our pure stock tech and he said he would take care of it Thanks, JON

THANK YOU: To all the pure stock drivers and

tow truck operators who helped us dry the track during
