I worked for Jim when he was the Circulation Manager for the Lodi News Sentinel and then he got me a job at the Stockton 99 Speedway selling programs. That was in the early eighty’s.  I had seen him off and on through the years. I even knew him when he was working for Kevin Gottula in his transmission shop. Jim is the first person that gave me my first job. And now I work for one of the biggest computer company HP. Even though we lost contact through the years I will be there for the Memorial Service. I know that Jim is one person that we will all miss.
Sincerely, Jason Pritchard

Jon Bussey
Hello,
This is Diana Lutz, Jon's oldest daughter, I just wanted everyone to know Dad is doing great.  He is in good spirits and ready to come home.  He will be home Wednesday, January 1st.  I don't know the exact time, but it will probably be after 4:00 PM.  I also wanted to thank everyone who has called, and let everyone know your well wishes were appreciated during this trying time.  Happy New Year!!

On a very sad note, Donald E.  ATKINSON, 72, of Stockton; died Monday Dec 30 at 4:15. Don was a long time fan of 99 and could be seen at 99 every week with his buddy Bob, first in line at 7:30 am every Saturday during the season. Stockton 99 Speedway will miss Don very much, but not his winning ways as he won Guess the Winner three times in 2002!!! Services are through Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home.

My Brother Jim Shiels

I found the web site and eventually found the nice things that you people said about my little Brother.  He was 59 years old and over six foot, but still was my little Brother.  My three sisters and I will sorely miss him.  All of us and the over 54 nieces and nephews never failed to hear from him on each of their birthdays.  Quiet a feat I would say, but not unusual for Jim.
Thank you so much for your kindness.
Sister Marilyn Fox, Charlotte, Michigan where Jim was born.

A Poem for Jim Shiels
Hi 99,

I would like to extend my wishes to you and yours to have a Happy Holiday Season.  Also, I wrote the poem below and would like to dedicate it to the memory and honor of our friend, Jim Shiels.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Regards,
David Holman

For Jim Shiels:
The entire Holman family wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Jo and the rest of the family.  Jim will be greatly missed.

A Passing Season
      (for Jim)

Have patience.
I'm learning
to live again.

Evening opens
like a jar of white butterflies
released into night.  Moonlit
wings skim the pond
flare up between the black branches
disappear into the world.

The marble angel at your grave
says so many glorious things, I kneel
on the grass listening
to her owl voice,
cricket voice,
wolf voice; when
she says, and when,
but never speaks of departure

which will always be
in the mind
a closed fist

You need three things to travel through the night,
through the bramble and tangle of the trees,
over the black water
-- faith that winter always brings spring
past the white iron of the river, up from the fallen leaves.
The need to see the dogwood, its brilliant
white blossoms, the crocus
thrusting its shoulders through
crevices in the rocks even though
there are remnants, still, of snow.

But to open the fist?
You'll need
to reason.

For years and years I have grieved
your death.

The butterflies rise, weightless,
in the moonlight.  "Love someone
with all your heart," they say,

"love like there will be no tomorrow,
but when the time comes
to let them go
let them go."

I will miss you, my friend.
David L Holman

Revision to Western Late Model Rules 2003

Webmaster,

The Western Late Model rules you recently posted are incomplete. Inadvertently one rule is missing, it is under Engine Restrictions, and should be listed as rule number 4. Should read as follows:

4. Crank Shaft will have a minimum weight: 45lbs for GM and Mopar, 35lbs for Ford.

Please post this email, and replace posted rules with revised edition dated Nov. 16, 2003.

Thanks,

Ken Gross
