Byrd racing
I don't understand why there needs to be so much favortism shown to these 3 drivers (you
know which 3 I'm refering too!)They aren't sorry drivers, why do they need to be favored
by the track and constantly be getting away with stuff that no other driver would? I hope
Dave Byrd fries all those hotwood cars, especially the red #6 who thinks he's Mark Martin,
oh please! Martin would never drive another driver like that. What's the deal? Why is
there so much favortism shown towards these Belleto drivers? They don't walk on water.
They put their pants on in the morning the same way everyone else does, one leg at a time.
I would much rather cheer for the driver that never wins, than to cheer for a bunch of
whiners and crybabies, which in my eyes is all they are. What a show of poor sportmanship
on the #6 car, just because he's in front of me I think I'll take him out? He's the one
that has to live with himself for looking so stupid out there. I don't come to the track
to watch the Belletos race, and thats the honest truth. I hope Dave Byrd continues on his
mission and if he decides to leave and never race 99 again, more power to him. I wouldn't
want to race at a track that might as well advertise the winner the day before! Shame on
you 99 for disappointing a lot of fans that have supported you for a long time.

Do we return or not??
I know the track is having a hard time getting LMS cars and now we all know why. They let
the Bellettos get away with murder. I know of four cars that are talking about racing
elsewhere. On one hand I hope the #0 car goes with them. Then the track might realize that
what they are doing is wrong. Not only is the #0 car tired of all the Belletto crap, the
other drivers are tired of it to. On the other hand I hope that the # 0 car stays because
the championship victory will be twice as good when it beats the #30 car. As for sponsers
I know I wont be buying things that sponser Steve # 30 .

FAMILY VENUE?
I have been attending 99 Speedway for at least 20 years. I have always enjoyed the racing
and excitement. In 1998 one of my family members started driving at 99. My question is why
you would allow a driver to promote illegal drug use on the hood of his car? I thought
after the first week the management would put a stop to it. To my surprise nothing was
done. I know you promote 99 as a FAMILY entertainment venue. Well, in case you do not know
what I am referring too. The hood of BJ Treadways car with the 4:20. This is a reference
to drug use. I do not think this is promoting a FAMILY entrainment venue. You attention to
this matter would be appreciated.

Races July 14, 2001
"I've never done anything like that before. But sometimes enough is enough. And I
didn't think the officials were going to do anything about it." -- Dave Byrd,
Dear Stockton 99 Speedway,
I am starting of my comments with the comments from Dave Byrd that I saw in the Stockton Record because it expresses exactly how I feel.
Last night was the first time I took my family to the races at Stockton. I have attended the races many times this year by myself. I finally convinced my wife to bring my daughter out for a nice night at the races and I truly regret it. I can not taking my family back to your track. I do not want them to experience someone being taking away because you allow that 30 car to play GOD with the other drivers lives.
In the paper it stated that the 30 car was awarded the 12th place finish. I use the word awarded because that is what you have done. You are basically saying that his kind of driving style to OK at your racetrack. I can not believe that the track will not take appropriate action. At all other levels of NASCAR, the points for the night would have been taken away and or a suspension would have been assigned to the 30 car.
Dont get me wrong, I am not condoning the action of the 0 car when he drove in front of the 30 car, but as his quote stated, I believe he had had enough and knew the track would not address the 30 cars actions yet again.

Belletto Speedway
How come you put Steve Belletto only one position behind Byrd? Jeff Belletto was sent to
the end of the pack earlier that night for spinning someone out. Steve should have been
penalized way more severe for deliberately taking Byrd out. (TWICE) and still you place
him 12th. Its a known rule you get sent to the rear for taking someone out and you place
him 12th? Even though I think he should be suspended and points taken away for the night,
you could have put him dead last.

Byrd/Belletto Fiasco (Guestbook entry)
I was disappointed at with the unsportsman like conduct on Saturday between Dave Byrd and
Steve Belletto.
When reading the newspaper this morning about the Byrd/Belletto fiasco one might think they were reading a made-up/far fetched article from the National Enquirer and not a credible local newspaper. I was saddened that two grown men decided to act like savages and play out a long standing feud with potentially dangerous and deadly weapons that are their race cars. I am curious if these two "drivers" are conscious of the many children in the grand stands who often idolize their favorite race car drivers and want to be just like them? What kind of example are you setting for them?
I am dismayed at the attention given to such hot headed drivers and little attention to other drivers whose "winning" was robbed and deemed insignificant by such trashy tabloid actions. These "Gentlemen (I use the term very loosely)" need to grow up.
Additionally, the lack of race information on your web page regarding other drivers and races that transpired at the Speedway Saturday night was extremely disappointing. I was looking for additional information as to how the race was "eventually" won by Modesto's Bob Strandwold. I am curious as what "eventually" means actually means. I found no other information other than the feud between Byrd and Belletto.
Hopefully the lack of complete race coverage will not be a detriment to the winning drivers and car owners who heavily depend on sponsorship to continue racing. I would hope that the officials at the Speedway wake up and put an end to such blatant disrespect for other drivers, fans and the sport that is racing in which we all pay to watch on Saturday nights.
The ball is in your court Officials. Take action and stop the insanity!
Complete coverage is posted.

You know, what is Aimee Sullivan trying to prove always trying to knock Cindy Freitas out?
Cindy drives a clean race and is trying to do her best and then this happens. Isn't

Belleto/ Byrd
In the Modesto Bee, Steve Belleto is quoted as saying "He doesn't want to give me any
room, and I don't want to give him any room" also quoted as saying "I'm not out
here to crash. I'm out here to race" Steve's own words explain what he is thinking. I
do not see how Dave could have gave him any room, wasn't Steve the one behind Dave? If you
look on Dave's web site at davebyrdracing .com the pictures tell the truth. As, for Dave
being fined? Amazing, just amazing! I guess, that is what happens when a track, has a
track pet, and a sponsor. Steve say's he wants respect, first you have to earn respect.
Even his own family was embarrassed.Shame on you Steve!! As for, Stockton's
"punishment" for Steve, they put him to the back? Not to the very back, but,
behind Dave? Anyone, and I mean anyone else who would have pulled the stunt that Steve
did, would have paid dearly for it. Come on you guys, speak up!!! Or this will continue to
happen, it is nonsense. You all pay your hard earned money to go to the races, and expect
to see good racing. You teach your children to be fair and honest, well, I hope this is
not an example, that Steve is teaching younger children. It is very sad, and I have lost
all respect for this man.The sad part is, Steve is a good racer, he does not have to be
disrespectful about it, and to Dave who is clean and who does not lack good judgment, Dave
knows he is a proven winner and can win by being fair and respectful to his fellow racers.
The track and the officials, need to revise this situation. Or they will continue to lose
customers and respect for your hard earned money! How many LMS did the track have that
night? Under 20! And they are calling drivers to try and get them there? I wonder why? It
seems to me, that people are tired of the track pets getting favors. As, for Dave turning
around, and confronting Steve on the track, what did the officials expect him to do? Not,
stick up for himself? Let it go, like they do? I say good for you Dave! You should be
commended!!! This has been going on for quite sometime, and they ignore, the situation
until one of the other drivers have no option, except for sticking up for themselves. If
Dave would not have done this, nothing would have been done, as we seen from example,
twice. As, for the radios, and what I heard. " Dave's team has to much political
clout? BS. And the spotters in turn four yelling into the radio (to Steve) , take that 0
car out, take that 0 car out, again and again. You are just making Steve worst, and he
needs to listen to himself more, instead of you. Because you are as responsible as Steve
is. And you should be ashamed, do you sleep well at night? Maybe someday, you will see the
whole picture. Sincerely; A Byrd Fan

The last lap
Would someone please tell me what Steve Belletto was thinking on the last lap? Could it be
"I need to wreck the # 0 car because if I don't he might beat me for the
championship." I could not believe what he did on that last lap. Does he not have
respect for other drivers? Every one of those drivers know the risk of being hurt when
they get into the race car and are willing to still get in the car. Steve (#30) could have
injured someone and for what? To win a championship? To Get his anger out? Why? Not only
are you risking the safety of all the drivers, driving that way costs everyone money. I
stayed after the race and heard the final finish announced in the pits for both 38's. I
couldn't believe that Steve finished 12th. Why wasn't he suspended and his points taken
from him for the night? I have been going to the track for 30 years and have seen cars 1)
Points taken away for that night with a fine. 2) Points taken away suspended for the next
week or even two. 3) Even points taken, suspended, and fined. I do know that there was a
meeting after all of this and I would hope that the appropriate action was taken. If you
don't do something about him he's going to end up hurting someone. That's just not clean
racing. How can he sleep at night knowing what he did was wrong? I can only hope that you
Stockton 99 speedway can control the monster you are creating. Tracy Shaw

Dave Byrd
You need to recognize that Dave Byrd was the only driver willing to risk his life to help
Ron Stramiska, when his car exploded. As, you are well enough aware that Dave has
experienced this horrible accident himself. But, if you look in the photos, who was
stopped? and ready to save someone's life? You need to commend Dave as a hero, that he is.

lost and found
At the conclusion of the July 3rd Firecracker Tri Holiday race my son and I failed to pick
up a plastic bag containing a new DJ #88 hat, an older black Dodge Motorsports hat along
with two glo pops that had been purchased at the suvenior stand earlier in the evening. As
my son paid for this hat with his own own money I was hoping that somebody had found the
sack & turned it in. We were sitting 2 thirds the way up just behind the flag tower.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Kurt

small world.
What a small world this is. Last week, I struck up a conversation about racing with the
uniform man where I work, and he turned out to be Eddie Wilcox, driver of #75 GAM. Then I
was walking through the pits getting autographs for my boys and my nephew saturday night
after the 50's mains & spec trucks, and someone yelled at me saying "don't tell
us you don't recognize us!". Well I walked closer to them, you see I didn't have on
my glasses & my eyesight is getting pretty bad past 10 feet or so, and was shocked to
realize that I was looking at my cousin Sherry & her husband, Joe Hylton. I got to
meet their daughter, a real cutie & smart as a whip, and see my cousin, Dave Perry,
Joe's crew chief. I also found out that they, Sherry & her mother, Maryann, sit just a
few rows up & over from where I sit all season. Anyway, just wanted to express how
great it is to go somewhere I can cheer people I know every saturday night. For your
information, Joe & Sherry & Eddie, my email address is keithnjoy@mediaone.net

Favortism
I really dont feel that #91 in the GAM gets anything more than anyother person out there.
I also really feel that the racing out there in that should be alot cleaner if we wanted
to spend all our life fixing a car, or be in a distruction durby then we would go in the
pure stock but we dont so why cant we run one clean race. The last race for the trophy
Dash was absolutly wrong, why wreck your car to get a stupid trophy and a few pionts, come
on how stupid are you guys out there. next time use your head to think !!!!

Eli Vukovich
I'm a little hurt at the remark made by an Allen Westbrook regarding her uncle. At 85 Eli
is doing as well as can be expected. If you don't know him he has always been a fun loving
man. He hasn't had his bell rung too many times. He does have dementia and if you have any
knowledge of the elderly you know that the statistics say that most individuals that reach
their 80's has some type of dementia. Eli has moments where he is extremely coherent (if
allene visitied at all she would know). But sometimes he is still working in the fields.
But we love him and are very proud of him. He is our PAPA.

grew up @99
It's sure geat how life comes full circle. My kids, Lynne', Jared, & Luke, enjoy
racing like I did as a kid. I have been coming to 99 since I was 4 years old. That was 30
years ago. My dad is Grady Cash. He worked on many cars from the 50's to the 80's. My
favorite driver was and still is Dan Reed. I used to bring friends to the track when I
could drive myself, and I would always brag about him. They would doubt me until they saw
him race. I remember one race about 15 years ago. Dan was in a 50 lap race, I think , and
he was in at least two situations that put him to the back of the pack. I had my two best
friends with me & they were laughing at me saying he wasn't that good & had no
chance now. I told them just wait, that he would still finish near the front. There were
about 10-12 laps left. Sure enough, he sliced through the field, with me standing &
yelling every lap & there was a caution with about 3 laps to go. My friends were in
disbelief & I was saying "he's gonna win!". Dan slipped past a few more cars
& won pulling away. My friends were just shaking their heads. I could recall many more
experiences that have left me hoarse, proud, emotionally drained, .....you know what I'm
talking about. I'm proud to be, in some small way, associated with 99 Speedway's past
& present. I love all the current divisions just as much as I miss watching Reed,
Stramitska Sr., Boyd, Lyon (always setting fast time), Belleto, David, Strandwald, Brazil,
Baldwin, Irvan & on & on. Watching Super Modifieds run here was a blast, & I
really wish my kids could see them run here. I also used to LOVE seeing the destruction
derbies when I was a kid. Anyway, sorry about running on. Just wanted to share some
memories before some of them fade. See you all at the track, Keith Cash

Pure Stock #97 - Danny Guibor - Family Lost
I would like for the people at Stockton 99 Speedway to know that on Sunday, June 17, 2001,
the Guibor Brothers and their pit crew chief, Don Tuggle, lost a very special person.
Doris Tuggle, who was the grandmother of the Guibor Brothers and the wife of Don Tuggle,
passed away at a Modesto Hospital. She went for a simple procedure and complications
developed. Her death has been very hard on the family and was totally unexpected. Doris
was a major supporter of her grandson's racing. She attended every single race that her
grandsons raced at Delta Speedway and Stockton 99 Speedway. She was also a great fan of
Sam Solari and Ron Stramiska. She will truly be missed.
The family would also like to thank the Speedway for including her in the prayer last Saturday. This meant alot to them.
Attending races at the Speedway will be very difficult for the family on June 30, but you can bet that they will be there because Doris would want them to be.
If anybody is interested. graveside services will be on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at Lakewood Cemetery in Hughson. California.

Many Fond Memories
Born and raised in Modesto my father started taking me to 99 Speedway when I was 4 years
old and the track was a daring figure 8, what action I remember. I grew up watching such
local legends as Dan Reed and Tony Cohello, as I got older I don't know if I paid more
attention to the racing or the Adult drive-in next door. Now that i'm a 38 year old father
of two bright young men ages 12 and 14 we still greatly enjoy the weekly racing series.
Thanks for all the fond memories.
Thank You Tony! Check this link to our history pages, it
should jog your memory! History
