Father's passing
I just wanted to let the racing family that we lost another member on Wednesday night.
Bert Moreland passed away Wednesday night in his sleep after getting a blood infection
shortly after Thanksgiving. He was a big part in the early day's of West Coast NASCAR. He
loved the sport of Auto Racing and lived it till his last day. His services are to be held
at Ripon Cemetery in Ripon @ 10am Wednesday 13th. He was a Good Friend and a Loving
Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He will be missed a lot.

schedule
We have seen a tentative schedule for next yrs season. We enjoyed the nites off and the
schedule we have seen has app 22-24 races. I sure hope we can run a scheduled season like
last yr. Many drivers and there family's enjoyed the nites off. It gave the drivers more
time to fix there cars and do family things, sure was nice to have at least 1 wkend a
month off.

I just got my copy of the rules for the western late models. I've had a chance to read
them thoroughly and they aren't as bad as we had heard. No penalty dished out to the
bigger inch engines although I understand the big engines will be history in '03. I think
that this division will widen the gap between us and the pure stocks and I hope that it
won't discourage them from moving up. I'd be curious to know if there are any plans to
bring back a street stock type division? thanks for the reply to my previous e-mail. I
guess I'm done bitching for now-April comes quick and we've got a car to get ready.SEE YA!

My name is bob mcdonald and i am a crewman on john gaalswyck`s late model, and i also was
a major sponser on mike garcia's pro-stock. i commend you on your attempt to make the pro
stock class the featured class.i have long belived this should have been done many yeas
ago. recently i had a conversation with dave davis, one of our local car builders, and i
undestand there is still some differences on ideas on chassis rules.i think all we need to
do is go directly to the nascar rule book for the weekly racing series and build the class
directly from there and then there wont be any queastions as to can i run this part or
that cylinder head.the rules are very black and white concerning chassis and engine rules.
i really feel this would simplify the whole situation as far as the pro-stocks go.i know
from talking to a couple of chassis builders that the "stock stub" idea on paper
is a good idea, but when you facter in the man hours to prepare a stock stub for use,it is
no longer cost effective.i still think you are headed in the right direction with your
line of thinking. as far as motor rules are concerned, they are spelled out in the nascar
rule book very clearly.i think the idea of each local track having its own seperate rules
is the wrong way to go. but i do agree with you on the idea in letting people run a quick
change if they choose. i know how much i have tied up in my floater in my modified, and
they are not cheap to build at all. i think you are looking in the right direction as far
as making it more affodable jim ,and i applaud you and ken and all the staff at 99
speedway for taking the iniative.i guess this is all i have to say for now.thanks for
listening and i look froward to any reply you might chose to write me. my e-mail address
is modified 70@aol.com ............. thanks for your time jim and ken.......sincerely BOB
McDONALD...
to what praposed rule changes are you refering to so I can reply properly.

pro stock rule changes
i've been hearing a lot of proposed rule changes being kicked around in the old rumor
mill. i would like to put in my two cents from a car builder/crew chief's
perspective.we've had two years worth of major changes and are ready for a period of time
not to have to re-engineer a chassis just to keep up. the past two years changes were for
the most part well thought out and made for better and more tuneable race cars. as a crew
chief and racer i thank you. but some of the changes i've heard will just ruin this
division as we know it. if the changes are in fact rumor i apologize for screaming before
i'm hurt. but if they're not rumor you will probably keep the modestly funded teams from
participating in a division that we have kept afloat through our past participation. or in
other words, if we had the funding we would have built a late model already. please let us
keep our division as it is for a while. sincerely, a concerned and for the present time
pro stock car builder.

A BIG Thank you!!!
I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of the drivers that participated in my
grandfathers memorial lap on Saturday 09/29/01. It meant a great deal to my father and the
rest of our family. As you all know my dad is willing to help anyone out that needs a hand
and I know it meant a lot to him to see all of our "racing family and friends"
show their sympathy for our loss. Thanks again....your thoughtfulness wasn't over looked.
See ya next year at the races and have a great off-season.

A new rookie for 2002
We would like some information regarding joining GAM, getting the 2002 rule book, etc. Ted
Montague IV recently bought a new GAM and is planning his rookie debut in the 2002 season.
Some of you "older" bench racers might remember his Dad Ted Montague who use to
race Midgets and Sprint Cars from the 70's to early 90's all over California. He retired
as expenses got to be too much for the family. With his Dad no longer racing and some free
weekends Ted Montague IV got into racing go-karts and won quite a few championships plus a
Duffy at a National race in Iowa. He had to quit that due to work and college. He'll be
graduating from San Jose State University this year with a Major in Business. However, he
and the family have has never lost our love of racing. We are very excited to get into
racing again and any information you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely,
Connie Montague

Flag man
This is written regarding the flag man on September1,2001
It is very disturbing that the flagman can't see the track 2examples
The pure stock heat race in which Guy Guibor ran foound him 2 car lengths in front of the rest of the pack before the green flag dropped??????* Had that been Chad Holman or Tom Bolin they would have not started the race. * My understanding of the rules is if you are track champion 2 years in a row you cannot come in the same class again. So why was Danny Guibor able to race?
The A Main pure stock saw Tom Bolin spin Chad Holman and there was no yellow flag as a result the #1 car slammed into Chad Holman as he could not see him with all the dust that had been created. Causing major damage to the #75 car. It seems totally unfair that the flagman has a differetn set of standards for the more expensive classes than the pure stock class. To make matters worse Stockton Speedway is the only local traack that doesn't pay the pure stock class(why is this) There should be one set of flag rules. I am sure if you review the tape you will find all my claims to be accurate.
Your pure stock division is a huge crowd drawer and it seems that they are the least respected by the officials.
As a driver that will be coming into the stockton 99 speedway for the 2002 season(as a rookie) this really concerns me.
It seems to me that the same rules the officials try to enforce are the ones that the officials are breaking or letting slide.

Question. What is the length of your track?
Hello Webmaster; I'm a member of the Seifert Senior Citizen Community Center here in
Stockton. During the meeting of the GUYS & SPORTS sports club, one guest discussed his
outing to your 99 Speedway. He mentioned that some of the cars were doing 13 second laps.
Well every one wondered, just how long is the track? Based on my experience with Sports
Cars, I said a 1/4 mile track. However that answer was not good enough. Thus, for a bunch
of old fans, What is the track length of the 99 Speedway? Thanks for any and all help. B.
Chadvick Ledford.
We are 1/4 mile, banked, paved and 4 distinctly different turns!!!
See you at the races!

Thanks Bill Simpson
Today was the day that NASCAR released their report on Dale Earnhardt's accident. I was at work when they had their televised conclusions but it is all over the web. They still say that the belt separated from the impact.
But no matter what that report says, Bill Simpson has been a blessing to motorsports and to my family. His belts, his helmet, his shoes, his firesuits have protected the men, women, boys and girls in the motorsports world. With each horrible accident in racing, Bill Simpson has done his best to find a solution to the problem and help protect our guys more. I personally have never seen a belt fail at any of my local tracks and we do insist that belts be changed every 3 years.
Bill Simpson's helmet saved my friend. When his modified hit the wall wide open and his head was knocked against the wall, the helmet protected him. It was scratched some but not his head. We even found window netting material in the screws where his shield moved but Justin was fine. Bill Simpson did that.
More than once I have seen a Simpson firesuit protect one of my guys from fire. Fire is probably the most feared of all racers in that car. It is very important not to cut back expenses by getting the wrong firesuit for the class of stockcar you drive in. I have seen a driver wear a one layer suit when the rule book called for two and what happened when he did catch fire. His firesuit was old and ragged, not much protection at all, but if he had had the firesuit that was required and a two layer Simpson suit, the damage to his body would have been far less.
I have read that Simpson was so upset about the belt that he pulled his safety trailer from the NASCAR tracks. He, above all else, has done more for the safety of our drivers than any other person. We all depend on him and I hope that he does not close his doors to the many people who do believe in Simpson products. He is needed, not only by Winston Cup, but by all of us.
As for this one person, I say thank you Bill Simpson for everything you have done for my guys and gals. You were there for my Justin with your helmet, your harness protected my daughter when she wrecked in her first race, you have never failed me once. My trust and the trust of many, many racers is still in your hands. NASCAR is just a small part of the many racers you help, please don't judge the many from the few.
Bill Simpson, you are needed. Not just for the "Big Boys" but for us "little guys" also. And this one lady would like to thank you for caring so much about the racers that entertain the many every week.

I just wanted to comment on Saturday's pure stock race. As with the LMS, I feel that the
pure stock division is guilty of playing favorites. When an up and coming rookie is
continually penalized for his performance, one questions the integrity of the officials
and the track as a whole. When officials and track personnel are presented with replays of
the race showing accurate footage, they will not change the ruling on the field. I think
that the motto of 99 Speedway should be changed to read "he who has the most money
wins". You need to quit playing favorites and let the drivers race.

Hi Debbie
As 99 Speedway was built in 1947, your quest will be very hard.
Races in the 30s were held at Baxter Stadium (a high school field) and at the county
fairgrounds, but very few records survive from that era. There were not that many events
and one would have no idea where to look in newspaper microfilms. With dates it would not
be too bad a search, but without it would take hundreds of hours looking at every page of
every days sports section for 8-10 months of every year, and you might still not find any
story as racing back then was considered "A bad boy sport" and did not get alot
of coverage.
The cars of that era were most likely Midgets, as full body race cars were very rare. I
have a friend who has alot of old midget stuff, I will ask him about Ralph.
Sorry I could not help more.

Racing has lost yet another local member.
Steve 'Rosebud' Riley lost his race against cancer Monday afternoon. Services will be held this coming Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park of Highway 99 and Harney Lane.
Steve was the husband of Sharon and the Stepfather of Darrin Halterman and had raced in Delta Speedway Mini Stocks, and 99 Speedway Hobby/Charger/ and Late Model action.
When he reaches that 'other' race track he can proudly present his resume of 18 heat wins, 9 dash wins, 8 semi wins, 8 main wins, and 122 total top finishes. I think they will smile and quickly pass him into the drivers garage for competition.
Rest well old friend:

Death of a Longtime 99 Speedway fan
I'll like to announce the death of one of Stockton 99 Speedways oldest Fan. We lost our
dear grandmother Winnie Bartolli last night. She was 89. She is the grandmother of #9 GAM,
Jeff Thomas. She rarely missed a race, and would see her standing and rooting for Jeff in
turn 4 and also another one of her favorites, Harry Bolletto. Grandma was the first
"ticket taker" when the track first opened in 1943. She will truly be missed by
all of her friends and family from the track. We love you Grandma. Marie Thomas

To Whom It May Concern:
For the people who say spinning a donut is not dignified or childish, my fondest memory of Dale Earnhardt is of him spinning donuts after winning the Daytona 500 for the first time. I figure if a man like Earnhardt with all his records could get that excited over a win, then any person after a first main event win at any race track in any division is equally as excited and should be treated as such by allowing a little fanfare and not by levying a fine on the competitors over a rule that makes no sense.
If the powers to be would look at the show from a spectators point of view and watch and listen to the crowd to see what they like, we might be able to put on a little better show. When Joey Stearns did a few donuts on the front stretch after his first main event win, the crowd was ecstatic.
At least Stearns got his minute in the spot light no matter what it cost him. Unlike Danny Contessotto, Chad Holman and a few other first time main event winners this year who were just ushered out the back gate without even so much as a victory lap.
Donuts are as much a part of racing as is lining up to take the green flag. And anytime you discount tradition, you diminish a sport in which many, many people have worked so hard to attain the kind of popularity motorsports enjoys today. This week, donuts, next week what? And next year? If we keep chipping away at the sport, soon we will have no sport. A hundred percent of nothing is still nothing. I say it's time for 99Speedway to recognize their winners, as does every other track in existence. No Donuts is such a ridiculous rule and it's time to send it the way of the dinosaur. It needs to be buried right next to the bones of the infamous Claim Rule that was so gratefully dispensed of earlier this year. Let the drivers enjoy their 15 seconds of recognition in celebration. They've earned it after victory in a hard-fought battle. More importantly, the crowd loves the Donut Show. And this is, afterall, about entertainment, isn't it?
A final note to chew on: How ridiculous is it to fine drivers $25 per donut in a Division whose only form of compensation for victory is a $5 slab of wood? Think about it.

0 vs. 30
0 vs. 30= fans in the stands. No matter how much people complain about the incident that
took place last Saturday, the fans loved it. Every race fan wants to see their favorite
driver win and when he can do it by beating the driver that they like the least, it makes
the win even sweeter. No racer wants their car destroyed or to lose positions and points.
So as a race fan, remember there are several causes for each accident but we the fans only
see what we want to see. At any rate sometimes rivalry is a good thing. Every sport has
them.

Bryd/Belleto feasco
I would like to know how the officals at 99' think Dave is in the same class as
Steve...Dave is not only a great driver but he has nothing but class on and off the
track..To penalize Dave the same as Steve is a joke. Steve hit Dave 3 times and Dave gets
penalized. This is just the tracks way of trying to look like they addressed. the issue
when actually they have made it worse. Their actions in the Pro Stocks was just a
joke--that did nothing but cause a good guy to lose his cool. The officals threat the
Belletos as if they own the track--just re-read some of the other comments. The sad thing
about all of this is they actually are good drivers. But everyone needs to be treated as
if they were a visiting driver from another track. The rules are there--they need to apply
them to EVERYONE. Quit showing favoritism to the Belleto's--if they're not ready --RACE
ON!!!!!!!!!! There are a lot of very good drivers and they all deserve to be treated the
same. The officals need to show the respect to each driver as they all put a lot into this
sport. We the fans also deserve to see every driver treated the same way. I don't
expect--but certainly hope--to see some changes for the rest of this season.

DAVE BYRD IS A GREAT DRIVER. HOW I KNOW IS THERE COULD OF BEEN MANY OF TIMES HE COULD HAVE
DONE AWAY WITH 30 74 AND 6. BUT BEING THE TRUE SPORTSMAN HE IS HE JUST LETS IT GO. WELL I
CAN SAY SATURDAY NIGHT BYRD PROVED THAT. HE COULD HAVE EASILY TOOK 30 OUT AND
SLAMMED HIM TO THE WALL PLENTY OF TIMES (JUST LIKE 30 DID TO 0) BUT NO, HE HAS A LOT OF
RESPECT FOR OTHER DRIVERS AND ALSO HAS HIS HEAD ON STRAIGHT. (NOT TO MENTION WHAT HIS
PUNISHMENT WOULD BE IF HE WAS TO DO SUCH A THING) WHAT I SEEN SAT NIGHT WAS RIDICULOUS. I
THINK BYRD HAD EVERY RIGHT TO DO WHAT HE DONE TO 30. IF YOU NOTICE WHEN DAVE PARKED
HIS FRONT END AGAINST 30 IT WAS ON A YELLOW FLAG AND IT WAS NOT DANGEROUS AT ALL(COMPARED
TO WHAT 30 HAD DONE TO HIM). THE SPEEDWAY WONDERS WHY THEY ARE LOOSING THE LMS CAR COUNT.
THE REASON IS BECAUSE BELLETTO'S HAVE THEIR CHAMPIONSHIPS, WINS, ETC AUTOMATICALLY WRAPPED
UP. ALOS IF YOU NOTICE WHEN THE BLUE 0 COMES AROUND TO TAKE A POS OVER THEM THEY WILL
AUTOMATICALLY TURN AND TRY TO TAKE HIM OUT. WELL IT JUST COMES TO SHOW HOW HARD STEVE HIT
BYRD WIN BYRD WENT ALL THE WAY AROUND TWICE. NORMALLY BYRD CAN HANDLE PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
THERE ARE 4 INCIDENTS I CAN COUNT AGAINST 30 THAT NIGHT THAT WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED WITH
ANY OTHER DRIVER/DIVISION/OR TRACK. #1) TROPHY DASH 30 DID NOT HAVE A FAIR PASS AND HE
PUSHED BYRD OUT OF THE WAY. #2) 1ST MAIN BYRD WAS KICKIN BUTT AND THE LAST LINEUP AFTER
CAUTION 74 HAD TO DO A LITTLE TAP FOR 30 BUT SORRY IT DIDNT WORK. #3) 2ND MAIN
30 TOOK DAVE OUT AROUND LAP 13 FLAT OUT IN TURN 3-4 WHICH TOOK FOREVER TO GET(30) TO THE
BACK. #4) DAVE BYRD CAME UP THROUGH THE PACK CLEAN AND RESPECTFUL, BUT THEN 30 HAD TO TAKE
OUT #10 AND PILED UP 2-3CARS IN TURN 1-2 SO THAT PUTS HIM BEHIND DAVE.( NOT TO MENTION HE
WAS NOT SENT TO THE BACK FOR THAT. #5) 30 TOOK OUT DAVE BYRD LAST LAP TURN 3-4.

I guess MONEY TALKS!
Well, I hate to say this but this last weeks incident proved to me that money is the
champion at "STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY". Lets look at the facts, #1) the 30 car took
the 0 car out in the trophy dash, the officials done nothing. #2) the 30 car took the 0
car out twice in the second 30 lap race and all the officials can think to do is place him
finishing after the 0 zero car. When I was an official at this same track we often sat
people out for the night and took away their points earned for that night, and also
suspended them for a week or more. Now I am not saying that the 0 car was right to do what
he done(though pretty cool), but the least that should happen to the 30 car is that he
should finish dead last in the race and all points for that race should be taken away. As
for the 0 car, he should be scored next to last but should be able to keep his points as
he did nothing to instigate the confrontation. After reviewing the tape of this last race
it is clear to me and a lot of other fans that the 30 car is out of control mentally.

WAKE UP OFFICAILS!!!!!!
If you can't beat them wreck them wright Belleto,s!! You guys do NOT own the track. #0
Dave byrd & #90 Strmiska are way better driver's and racer!!! Next time I hope Dave
beats you. I would be one of the first to offer him help as the Belleto's need it!!!!! I
have seen this sort of thing all last year as well as this year IT NEEDS TO STOP!!!
Officails, Suspend this #30 for at least 2 races, This was one of the worst acts of unsportsman like conduct I have ever seen from a (SO CALLED) champion racer!
Long time fan of stockton 99, But not of the Belleto's
