Mr. Beck, the rules clearly state, only magnetic steel single piston calipers allowed. anything else (such as aluminum, or multiple piston calipers) will be considered illegal and given one week at most to rectify after tech insp. nascar and the staff of officials at stkn. 99 speedway, write and enforce the rules, and the lead tech. inspector in the wlm. sereis is one of the best. so cars built to stkn. rules should have no problems going through tech.

Truck Drivers
I am trying to remember the name of a driver who drove Craftsman for a while, he was from Atwater and if I remember correctly his truck was yellow and he was sponsored by Ortho, do you have any ideas?

Georgia Hoopaugh
The driver of the Ortho truck was Doug George. He also drove at "99" a year or two and moved up to run Southwest Tour, where he won a championship in the #37 ford thunderbird.

Dave Byrd situation!!!!!
I wish that before people started shooting their mouth (or fingers) off, they would get their facts straight. Fact #1= Dave Byrd has not agreed to anything with "GILLIT / SHAFER racing. Fact #2=Gillit / Shafer racing does not have 2 cars race ready for Dave Byrd or anybody else at this time, (well maybe for Burney). Why don't you people find something else to worry about other than GILLIT / SHAFER racing. You just might want to worry about Larry Tankersley coming back and kicking all your butts! Lets go and have some fun once we get the rules straight. We will be racing you soon. CAB

DAVE BYRD SIGNS CONTRACT FOR 2002

HOLLISTER , CALIF.   ( January 23, 2002 )  Thirteen-time Champion Dave Byrd has signed with car owners Mike Shafer and Tim Gillit to pilot the No. 9 Western Late Model for NASCAR Regional points at Stockton 99 Speedway.  Byrd has also agreed to drive the No. “0-is-my-hero” Late Model Sportsman in selected events, which may include the Tri-Holiday races, the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series event and the visiting SRL Wild West Late Model events.  Byrd teamed with Tim Gillit previously to win four championships in four years, between 1994 and 1997.

“I’m glad to have the opportunity to compete in two new cars this year,” said Dave Byrd.  “We are looking forward to winning another championship together.”

In addition to the 29-race Stockton schedule, Byrd and Dave Byrd Racing team manager John LaFever, will field the No. 17 NASCAR FSWS touring car in selected events.  Byrd is also in negotiations with teams from two other series on open dates in his schedule.  In 2001, Byrd competed in 67 events, from five different divisions, winning ten main events, four poles, five trophy dashes and 17 heat races.

For more information on Dave Byrd and the teams he drives for, check out his website at www.davebyrdracing.com.

Hi All,

I don't know if any have heard, but we had heard that Burney was in a serious accident at PIR yesterday. I have since called the track and found out it was a Daryl Lemoore. My thoughts are with his family and friends but there definitely was a sigh of relief that it wasn't Burney. As far as the person that I talked to this morning said that it wasn't Burney Lamar. Let's all pray for this man's family and hope that we can have a safe racing season this year throughout the world. God Bless everyone and see ya at the track!

June 22nd
Is the schedule final. What is going to happen June 22nd when a majority of the fans and some of the drivers are at Sears Point for the SW Tour race and Winston Cup happy hour? Last year there were no races that weekend.
We will not be running on the 22nd sears point weekend.  Ken and I have been
reviewing it and as of today (1/18/02), we will be closed.

Hi, my name is Jaime
Hi, my name is Jaime. In my History class we have to write a term paper on something that we want to be preserved. We get pictures, interviews from people, and records of the place. For example, if someone did a paper on a restaurant and in 30 years it was gone it would be remembered or preserved because that student wrote about it. Well, I was wanting to do Stockton 99 Speedway. My teacher said the place had to be older than 30 years, and I have no idea how long the track has been there, so can you e-mail me as soon as possible and let me know. Thanks!

I WAS SENT THIS AND I DONT KNOW WHO IT WAS FROM?

Hi,

I saw your message on the guest book for S99S.  The last I heard is that
over 35 requests have been made for numbers in the Western Late Model
Division.

I have a new entry into the class.  I will be running a 2001 Left Hander
chassis and Rocket Rieker will be the driver.  Rocket drove my modified at
Roseville last season.  I am trying to get a second car going and Steve
Daniels, who also drives modifieds for Vautier Racing, will be the driver.
We have registered numbers 12 and 21.  I know Gerry Glenn has a new Perry
chassis and Mark Welch will be driving it.  It will be number 23.

I heard that Jim Byrd will be driving your car. I also heard that the two
Boletto sons have rides in the new Western Late Model division.

There is a number 12 car that ran at Altamont last year is thinking about
racing at S99S this season because he tried to register the number 12, but I
already had it.  I think I will check the Altamont web site and look up the
12 car.

That is all I have heard so far.  Let me know if you get any more
information.   See you at the track.

Regards,

Al Vautier

can you guys post the 2002 driver roster or as much as you know or even send it to me? i want to know becuase my grandpa tim gillit owns a car and i would like to see who he will have his car and driver going up against. thank you a lot bye. my email address is geoff4353@aol.com thanks

Geoff:
Rosters aren't out yet. They'll be semi accurate after the play-days when the drivers sign up for their new NASCAR licenses. Why don't you ask your grandpa?  There've been lots of rumors as to who's driving their car. Please let us know what he says!

Thanks

Your on-line book
I want to thank you very much for the great book you have put together. My father raced at your track years ago. I really don't know much about him but I found his name on your roster list. This book is one of the most comprehensive writings, I've found, so far, on the early local racing seen. My dad's name was George Tietjen. I knew him to go under the name of "Crazy Wheels Tietjen". I do know Dick Carter was a friend of my fathers. My mom spoke of Dick Carter many times and also Joe Valente or "Jumping Joe Valente".She had mentioned to us kids that Joe was a wonderful driver,in his day, but was seriously injured in a racing accident, which ended his racing career. Joe went on to be a flag man at some of the local tracks. Thanks for your book and if you have any info for me about my father please let me know. My e-mail address is nomas8@juno.com  Thanks again.
