BIG TIME RACING SATURDAY NIGHT INCLUDES SOUTHWEST SERIES "AUTOZONE STORES STOCKTON 125 BY HAVOLINE", WESTERN LATE MODELS, ALSC, TRUCKS AND CMRA
•Double points night for Western Late Models, Trucks and American Limited Stock Cars

STOCKTON -- On Saturday NASCAR fans are going to watch drivers from home and
from as far away as North Caolina, Idaho and Arizona competing in two BIG,
exciting late model NASCAR races! Hometown fans are going to get to see the
HAVOLINE Western Late Model championship quest heat up! Only 11 points separates
division leader #27 John Moore, of Granite Bay, second place trailer #5 Pete Anderson
Jr., of Stockton, and third
place follower
#20 Allison Duncan of San Rafael. You can
bet that these three front-runners, all of whom have won multiple main events
this season, will be on top of their games for Saturday’s double points night!
However, the division’s top three are going to have to consider more than
just themselves in the quest for the 50-lap main event win. Stockton’s #6 Gary
Shafer Jr. has proven that he can take a main event. He has already won one this
season, and was well on his way to his second win last week before he
encountered debris that cut his tire, leading to an incident that ended his
night. He showed the field that he was a skilled driver when he handled the car
away from the pack, avoiding what could have been a nasty collision. A driver
with moves like his has to be taken seriously.
Chowchilla’s
#32 Eric Humphries is sitting at number five in the division points
race and each week the 2004 Rookie of the Year comes prepared to run his best
race. He has also taken a main event this season, and you can bet that he wants
another!
Despite a series of bad luck incidents, Turlock’s #11 Chris Monez, piloting the
2005
Stockton DODGE Intrepid, has been able to hang onto the number four
position in the points standings. The WLM field knows that he has what it takes
to score a win, and if anyone is hungry, it’s him.
The second dose of short-track-adrenaline race fans are going to get served Saturday is the NASCAR AUTOZONE ELITE DIVISION SOUTHWEST SERIES "AUTOZONE STORES STOCKTON 125 BY HAVOLINE"!
More than 20 drivers are already registered to run in the 125-lap race.
Competitors include the likes of Escalon’s Eric Holmes, who took second in the
Southwest Series road race at Infineon on June 25; Kernerville, North Carolina’s
#1,
Burney Lamar, who started his NASCAR racing career at Stockton 99 Speedway and
now sits at second in the series standings; Prunedale’s #03 Jim Pettit II, the
defending Southwest
Series champion and current points leader who scored his
first Southwest Series victory and Bud Pole award at Stockton 99 Speedway;
Burley Idaho’s Nick Lynch, who is in
the series top 10; Lakeside’s (CA)
#11, Auggie
Vidovich II, who is number 3 in the points race and was the winner of the April
30, 125-lap race at Stockton 99 Speedway.
Likely unexpected last minute entries could include the famed Belletto racing
family
of Modesto, dad Harry and sons Steve and Jeff. If time allows, these
three could have their Southwest Series cars ready to roll come race day.
The AutoZone “125” presented by Havoline is race number eight of the 14-race championship series and the start of a four race stretch on consecutive weekends. Success this weekend at Stockton could well determine this year’s series champion!
Throughout is 59-season history, Stockton 99 Speedway has been treating fans to grassroots NASCAR excitement that can’t be rivaled. This Saturday is going to be no exception! In addition to the tense Western Late Model points race that’s going on and the 125-lap Southwest Series battle that will take place, fans will also get to watch the
NASCAR Weekly Series CL BRYANT American Limited Stock Cars race, the Pro-4 Trucks and California Mini Racing Association Mini Cup cars run!
In the ALSC battle,
#15 Modesto’s Charlie Clawson is holding a comfortable lead
in
the points race, but Stockton’s Donny Darter is consistently setting new
track records and, like Clawson, he also has three main event wins in the books
this season. Other ALSC drivers who have won mains this season include
Stockton’s Joe Allen, Stockton’s Kannai Scantlen and Stockton’s Chad Holman.
When the ALSC’s green flag waves Saturday, who sits where in the points is going to go out the door and everyone’s mind will be fixed on one thing -- the checkered flag!
Who is going to win the Pro-4 Trucks race is also impossible to predict.
Lathrop’s #6
Mark Henslee is leading the pack in points, but
#3 Milpitas’ Ron Robeck
is coming back fresh off of a division sweep. Lodi’s Mike Curry always gives the
field a run for its money and rookie driver Nathan McNeil of Oakdale is looking
for his first win.
Back again for some more exciting up-and-coming action will be the
8-through-
15-year- old drivers of the CMRA mini cups. Through the years, every
top NASCAR driver started his career at some beginning level, fans watching
these youngsters don’t know it, but they might be might be watching a future
star!
