For the first time in Stockton 99 Speedway history, the historic
quarter-mile paved oval will host both the NASCAR Grand National West Series and
NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series on the same night Saturday,
April 30.
Stockton 99 Speedway is celebrating 60 years of motor sports entertainment and
will host the NASCAR AutoZone Elite
Division, Southwest Series two times in 2005.
Stockton 99 Speedway has hosted 22 Southwest Series races since the series was
incepted back in 1986. Ron Hornaday Jr. tops the record books with three
victories on the tricky quarter-mile paved oval, while Craig Raudman, Rick
Carelli, Troy Beebe, Dan Press, and Ken Boyd have all claimed two wins apiece in
Southwest Series competition. Rising NASCAR
star Burney Lamar of nearby W. Sacramento, Calif. cut his stock car teeth at
Stockton and is eager for this weekend's event. Lamar has three top five
finishes and is looking for his first win at Stockton. Lamar claimed his first
NASCAR Grand National West Series victory last Thursday evening at Phoenix
(Ariz.) Int'l Raceway and is the current Southwest Series point leader.
The AutoZone Twin Championships presented by Havoline "100" is set to take the
green flag Saturday, April 30 at 7:45pm PST at the historic Stockton 99 Speedway
and will be broadcast live on HDNet. Check local cable and satellite listings
for the broadcast schedule in your area.
There is also an open practice on Friday, April 29, 2005 from 12:00 noon to
8:00pm featuring drivers from both the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest
Series and the NASCAR Grand National West Series.
