Five Divisions of NASCAR Racing On Tap at Stockton’s 99 Speedway This Saturday Night
There will be something for every race fan on Saturday night’s NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program at Stockton’s 99 Speedway the "Little Bristol of the West" when the Havoline Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, American Limited Stock Cars, Pro 4 Trucks and Young Guns presented by Havoline/C.L. Bryant will all be taking on the high-banked quarter mile oval.
The battle for the 2006 Havoline Western Late Model championship is turning
into the knockdown, drag out dogfight it was expected to be this season.
Last
Saturday, 20-year-old Mark Holeman of Los Altos drove the race of his life as he
held off all the challenges mounted by a strong 17-car field to pick up the
first win of his career in round #3 of the HOTWOOD 1000 Series by JM
Environmental/Havoline.
In doing so Holeman became the fourth different winner in 2006 - along with
Salida’s Sam Solari, Stockton’s Ron Strmiska Jr. and Pacific Grove’s Dave Byrd -
in only four Havoline Western Late Model races.
Despite
not having made it into victory circle this year, defending track champion Pete
Anderson Jr. of Stockton clings to a one point lead over Holeman in the 2006
point standings. In addition, four other drivers – Byrd, Eric Humphries of
Chowchilla, Guy Guibor of Manteca and Pete Hernandez of Sacramento – are all
with just 20 points of Anderson’s lead.
Last week the stakes got even higher when Stockton 99 Speedway promoter Ken
Clapp, in conjunction with sponsors HOTWOOD, JM Environmental, Havoline and C.L.
Bryant, announced that the 2006 post season bonus prize fund for the Havoline
Western Late Model division "HOTWOOD 1000" Series will be increased to $25,750,
bringing the total prize money for the class to approximately $175,000!
The
championship battles are equally close in the other divisions as well. Jay
Linstroth of Citrus Heights has a five point margin over defending champion
Jason Philpot of Sacramento in the popular open-wheel Grand American Modifieds,
Mark Henslee of Lathrop and Ron Robeck of Milpitas are tied for the top spot in
the Pro 4 Trucks and Escalon’s Darrell Hughes holds a narrow lead over several
drivers in the ultra tough American limited Stock division.
Also, circle June 10th on your racing calendars when the first wedding in the 60 year history of the 99 Speedway will be take place at the start/finish line. Long time race fans Lynn Marie Beck and Alexander Victor, both of San Rafael, will take the green flag of holy matrimony that evening with track announcer Wayne Pierce, who recently became a licensed Deputy Commissioner for Civil Marriages, performing the ceremony.
Dave Royce, owner of Royce’s BBQ, has donated a two-night honeymoon package at Lake Tahoe for the lucky couple. Other wedding donations such as flowers, cakes and decorations are welcome.
Come out and join in the fun this Saturday night May 20 as the Stockton 99
Speedway celebrates 60 years of thunder and excitement.
