Triple 50 Lap Features Highlight Stockton’s 99 Speedway NASCAR Program This Saturday Night
Media Relations – Dale J Bosowski. May 31, 2006
It is going to be an evening of solid action when Stockton’s 99 Speedway hosts
its NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program, presented by Havoline/C.L.
Bryant, this Saturday night June 3 featuring 50 lap mains for the Havoline
Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds and American Limited Stock Cars
plus the Pro 4 Trucks in a 30 lap feature.
With "double" points on the line in all four divisions this Saturday the season standings, in which all four divisions remain tight as a drum, could be in for a major shake up.
Last
Saturday, Mark Holeman, #15, (Left), of Los Altos, became the first repeat
winner of
the season in the premier Havoline Western Late Model class in six
races. The 20-year-old Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo
college student drove with a skill well beyond his years as he held off
defending track champion Pete Anderson Jr. of Stockton and former track champion
Dave Byrd of Pacific Grove to take the checkered flag in round #4 of the HOTWOOD
1000 Series by JM Environmental/Havoline.
Byrd,
(left), holds down the top spot of the Havoline Western Late Model
standings, but Anderson, Guy Guibor of Manteca, NASCAR Diversity driver Pete
Hernandez of Chicago, Illinois and Eric Humphries of Chowchilla all sit within
just 15 points of Byrd’s perch. Holeman, who missed one race due to his studies,
and Stockton’s Ron Strmiska Jr., (right), are also well within striking distance
of the leaders.
Byrd
and Anderson, #5, also hold down the fourth and sixth spots, respectively, in
the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division II
point standings released this week. The winner of each of the four national
divisions earns $25,000 and the opportunity to be crowned national champion at
the end of the season.
The
Modified drivers return from their week off with some added incentive after
promoter Ken Clapp
recently announced a guaranteed purse of over $12,000, including $2,000 to the
winner, for any race with a minimum count of 30 or more Grand American Modified
cars.
Jay
Linstroth, (right), of Citrus Heights has a 10-point margin over defending
champion Jason Philpot of Sacramento while Galt’s #2, Jason Kerby sits only
three points below Philpott in what is shaping up to be a great three-car battle
for the Grand American Modified title.
Escalon’s Darrell Hughes, #28, currently owns the largest lead in any of the
four divisions
with a 15-point margin over
Stockton’s Joe Allen, (right), in the rough and tumble American Limited Stock
Car class. Although, he has not won a race this season, Hughes has earned his
advantage with seven straight top six finishes.
It
can’t get any closer than in the Pro 4 Trucks where Mark Henslee, #6, of Lathrop
and Ron Robeck, (right), of Milpitas are in a flat-footed tie for the lead.
Oakdale’s Nathan McNeil, #20, showed he will also have a say in the championship
after posting his first career win last Saturday.
As summer approaches the weather is heating up, but the action is already red hot at Stockton’s 99 Speedway the "Little Bristol of the West."
The pit gates will open at 1:00 PM on Saturday June 3, grandstands open at 3:00 PM, qualifying begins at 4:30 PM and the first green flag will wave at approximately 6:00 PM.
