HOTWOOD 1000 Series Returns to Stockton 99 Speedway With Rule
Adjustments for Western Late Models
Five divisions of racing, highlighted by the Havoline Western Late Models in round #5 of the popular HOTWOOD 1000 Series by JM Environmental, will do battle on this Saturday’s June 10 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program, presented by Havoline/C.L. Bryant, at Stockton’s 99 Speedway.
Track promoter Ken Clapp has announced several Western Late Model division rule adjustments aimed at insuring a strong car count. Beginning this Saturday, teams will not be required to buy tires at the track and tires will no longer be impounded. Changes governing shock absorbers, scoop hoods and carburetor requirements are also among the rule adjustments that will be put in place this weekend. After knocking on the door all season long, defending track champion Pete Anderson Jr. of Stockton went wire-to-wire in last Saturday’s 50-lap Western Late Model main to capture his first victory of the 2006 campaign. In doing so he became the sixth different driver to win a Western Late Model feature in just seven races this season.
Anderson’s impressive win vaulted him to the top of the regular season and the HOTWOOD 1000 Series point standings. In addition, Anderson moved up to fifth place overall in the latest NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Division II point standings in which the winner of each of the four national divisions earns $25,000 and the opportunity to be crowned national champion at the end of the season.
Pete Hernandez of Chicago, Illinois turned in another fine performance last Saturday to move into second place in both the regular season and HOTWOOD points. It was the fourth straight top five finish for NASCAR diversity driver out of the Bill McAnally Racing stable.
Manteca’s Guy Guibor, Eric Humprhries of Chowchilla and Stockton’s Ron Strmiska Jr. round out the top five in the season standings in what has become one of the tightest championship fights in the 60-year history of the speedway.
The American Limited Stock Cars, Pro 4 Trucks, Young Guns and Baby Grands will also be taking on the high-banked quarter mile oval labeled the "Little Bristol of the West" this Saturday.
As was expected, last Saturday’s "double points" event shuffled the order in the season standings for the American Limited Stocks. Escalon’s Darrell Hughes was able to retain his lead in the division by a narrow margin, but Chad Holman of Stockton and Matt Erickson of Ceres have moved up to second and third, respectively, after defending division champion Joe Allen of Stockton blew his engine and failed to finish the race, dropping him to fourth overall. Stockton’s Richard Harper rounds out the top five.
Mark Henslee clings to a narrow four-point lead (425-421) in the Pro 4 Trucks over Ron Robeck of Milpitas on the strength of his wire-to-wire win last Saturday. Nathan McNeil of Oakdale remains in the hunt, holding down third in the season standings, after borrowing the truck of Oakdale’s Jason Dalrymple when he encountered a mechanical failure in pre race practice last Saturday.
Not only will fans attending this Saturday’s show witness some of the finest racing on the west coast, they will also take part in the social event of the season when long time race fans Lynn Marie Beck and Alexander Victor, both of San Rafael, will tie the knot in holy matrimony at the start/finish line to kick off the night’s activities. Track announcer extraordinaire Wayne Pierce, who recently became a licensed Deputy Commissioner for Civil Marriages, will be performing the ceremony, the first in speedway history.
The pit gates will open at 1:00 PM on Saturday, grandstands open at 3:00 PM, qualifying begins at 4:30 PM, wedding ceremonies are scheduled to commence at 5:45 PM and racing will begin at approximately 6:10 PM.
