Late Model Twin 100’s and Fireworks Launch the Summer Racing Schedule this Saturday at Stockton’s 99 Speedway
Start your summer with a night of thunder and lightning when Stockton’s 99 Speedway kicks off the second half of the 2006 racing season on Saturday July 1 with four divisions of racing and fireworks.
This special NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program will feature 100-lap
mains
for both the Havoline Western Late Models, in round #6 of the HOTWOOD 1000
Series by JM Environmental, and the West Car Late Model Series. In addition, the
American Limited Stocks and Legends, presented by Havoline/C.L. Bryant, will
also be in action, plus a huge fireworks extravaganza will light up the Saturday
evening sky in celebration of the upcoming 4th of July holiday.
Saturday’s program is going to be one of the biggest shows of the year. Track
officials are anticipating a total of more than 100 cars will be crowding into
the 99 Speedway pits this Saturday including a count of over 60 Late Models
alone vying for starting spots in the Western and West Car Series Late Model
100-lap features. A car count of 30 or more for the Havoline Western Late Model
division will guarantee a payout of over $15,000 for the night with $2,500 going
to the victor.
The battle for the 2006 Stockton track championship continues to be one of
the
fiercest
in the long 60-year history of the high-banked quarter mile oval. On June 17,
Pete Hernandez #20, of Chicago, Illinois became the seventh different driver to
collect a checkered flag in nine Western Late Models features this season.
Hernandez, a NASCAR diversity driver with Bill McAnally Racing, earned the
victory by holding off former track champion Dave Byrd, #21, of Pacific Grove in
a thrilling 50-lap main that had the crowd on the edge of their seats the entire
distance.
Stockton’s
#5, Pete Anderson Jr., the defending Havoline Western
Late Model track champion, holds a razor slim 19-point edge over Manteca’s #61,
Guy Guibor in the current standings while Hernandez, Stockton’s #90, Ron
Strmiska Jr. and Chowchilla’s Eric Humphries are all jammed within 18 points of
Guibor.
Anderson
also holds a precarious 23-point advantage over Humphries
in the special HOTWOOD 1000 Series, which will pay over $5,200 to the end of
season winner out of a total prize fund in excess of $25,000. Guibor, Hernandez,
Strmiska, Byrd, Joey Sterns, #8, of Stockton and rookie sensation Mark Holeman
of Los Altos are all positioned well within striking distance of the leaders.
The
popular West Car Series will be making its third appearance at the 99 Speedway
this season. Bryon Gonzalez of Carmichael was the surprise West Car winner on
opening day and fan favorite Shannon
Mansch of Roseville dominated the field back on May 27. After five events, the
West Car Series season point standings show Mansch holding a modest ten point
lead over Gonzalez and Glary Glenn of Orangevale, with Roy Shirk of Oakley and
Turlock’s Chris Monez rounding out the top five.
The
order at the top of the standings in the rough and tumble American Limited Stock
Car division continues to change on a weekly
basis. Stockton’s Chad "the Iceman" Holman, #75, continues to be "King of the
Hill", but Matt Erickson, #42, of Ceres has taken over second place from
Escalon’s Darrell Hughes
in
the latest standings. Stockton’s Richard Harper, Lodi’s Jeff Ahl, Joe Allen and
#85, Pete Anderson Sr., both of Stockton, all remain in the thick of the
championship hunt as well.
Come out this Saturday July 1 and be a part of all the action as the Stockton
99 Speedway celebrates the upcoming 4th of July holiday with one of
the biggest shows of the year. It will be a night to remember as more than 100
cars in four divisions will do battle in over 250 laps of main event action plus
FIREWORKS!
