Six Divisions of NASCAR Racing Ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll Stockton 99 Speedway This Saturday Night
With six divisions of racing on tap, fans of the Stockton 99 Speedway are gearing up for an evening of solid action at the high-banked Ľ mile oval this Saturday, July 22. The huge program includes the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds and American Limited Stock Cars, presented by Havoline/C.L. Bryant, plus the Legends, Baby Grands and Northern California Modified Association Asphalt Sprints.
The battle for the 2006 track championship in the premier Havoline Western Late Model division remains tighter than a pair of Paris Hilton’s jeans.
Fighting off a case of the flu, defending track champion Pete Anderson Jr., of Stockton, rebounded from his previous week’s DNF to capture his second win of the season in round #7 of the special HOTWOOD 1000 Series, by JM Environmental, last Saturday night. The crowd of better than 2,800 stayed on the edge of their seats as NASCAR diversity driver Pete Hernandez, of Chicago, Illinois, relentlessly stalked Anderson throughout the entire 100-lap race.
Guy Guibor, of Manteca, managed to cling to the top spot in the Western Late Model point standings with his sixth place finish in last Saturday’s race, while Anderson moved into second place, just five slim points (574-569) out of the lead. Stockton’s Ron Strmiska Jr. (556), Chowchilla’s Eric Humphries (544) and Hernandez (529) all remain solidly in the championship hunt with just eight races left on the schedule.
The popular open-wheeled Grand American Modified (GAM) division returns for their appearance in Stockton in since June 17th with a 50-lap feature. Jay Linstroth, of Citrus Heights, holds a narrow 25-point (323-298) advantage over defending GAM champion Jason Philpot of Sacramento while Galt’s Jason Kerby (272) and Modesto’s Mike Beeler (258) continue to make their presence felt in the GAM championship chase.
With his fourth main event win of the season last Saturday, Stockton’s Chad Holman has opened up a comfortable, though hardly insurmountable, lead of 35 points (584-549) over Escalon’s Darrell Hughes in the always unpredictable American Limited Stock Car division.
Open-wheel fans are in for a special treat as the Northern California Modified Association Sprints make their only 2006 appearance at the 99 Speedway this Saturday. The versatile non-winged Sprints race at multiple tracks throughout Northern California and Nevada on both asphalt and dirt.
In addition to all of the great racing action, the first 1,000 adult paying fans in attendance will have an opportunity to win free concert tickets to the beautiful Ironstone Amphitheatre in Murphys, courtesy of Ironstone Vineyards and HOTWOOD, for shows starring Carrie Underwood/Randy Travis on August 4th, the Doobie Brothers/Los Lonely Boys on August 25th and Heart/Kansas on September 10th.
Come out and join in the fun this Saturday night, July 22, as the Stockton 99 Speedway - the “Little Bristol of the West” - continues with its season long celebration of 60 years of thunder and excitement.
The pit gates will open at 1:00 PM on Saturday, grandstands open at 3:00 PM, practice will run from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, qualifying begins at 4:30 PM and the first green flag will wave at approximately 6:00 PM.
