STOCKTON OPEN WHEEL OPENER OFFERS INDY 500 LOOK

(STOCKTON, CA—March 8, 2000)—Early entries for Stockton 99 Speedway’s season opening "open wheel extravaganza"--involving winged super modifieds, USAC midgets and sprint cars as well as NASCAR grand american modifieds—lend a definite Indianapolis 500 appearance. The first entry came from five-time Indy competitor and Supermodified Racing League president Davey Hamilton of Las Vegas, NV, who plans to not only run the winged supers but will pilot the Consani Racing midget and sprint cars, as well, at Stockton’s Sunday, March 26, lid lifter. Hamilton is expected to be joined by three-time Indy runner Billy Boat, who drove an A. J. Foyt entry at last year’s Memorial Day weekend 500-miler. More than $50,000 in posted awards will be at stake when more than 100 open wheel cars gather at Stockton for an event sponsored in part by C.L. Bryant 76 Gasoline.

"Exciting" is the word Stockton 99 track manager Duane Borovec uses to describe his early entry list. "Not only do we have some established big names, we have some up-and-coming youngsters, as well," he said. Included in the up-and-coming group are Bud Kaeding and Kasey Kahne in the USAC midgets and sprints. They will be joined by local favorite and defending Tri-Track Challenge champion Burney Lamar of Sacramento, who will be making his initial open wheel appearance on 99’s tight, quarter-mile paved oval. Another early entrant is Thomas Meseraull, who made his open wheel debut a year ago.

Although not officially on board yet, other entries are expected from super modified regulars Troy Regier, Mark Ekberg and last year’s Stockton winner Lonny Adamson of Salt Lake City, UT. USAC veterans expected to compete include Dave Darland, Tracy Hines and Wally Pankratz plus Sacramento area competitors Tony Hunt and Jimmy Sills.

The Stockton 99 program will start at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for teens 13-to-19 and $10 dollars for children six to 12 years old. Further information can be obtained by calling Stockton 99 Speedway at (209) 466-9999.
