Stockton 99 Speedway Gears Up for Final Stretch Run

With only three dates remaining on the 2006 schedule time is quickly running out on the Stockton 99 Speedway, which will close its gates for good following the 2006 season.

While the “little Bristol of the West” may be closing after 60 years of racing excitement, it will be doing so with a bang. The September schedule highlights include four 100-lap late model races, the crowning of five driver championships and a host of other special activities and events.

The speedway will be dark this weekend before returning to action on Labor Day weekend with a huge Tri-Holiday show on Saturday, September 2nd, which will include twin 100-lap features for the late models. The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program will feature the Havoline Western Late Models in round #9 of the HOTWOOD 1000 Series, presented by J.M. Environmental, in a 100-lap feature, the Pro-4 Trucks and the American Limited Stock Cars, by C.L. Bryant and the West Car Late Model Series will decide its 2006 season champion with a 100-lap main event.

On Saturday, September 9th, the Havoline Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds (GAM), American Limited Stock Cars (ALSC) and Pro-4 Trucks will all be doing battle. The 2006 track champions will be crowned for the GAMs and Pro-4 Trucks following their “double points” features that night.

The grand finale will take place on Saturday, September 16th. The SRL Wild West Late Models will be making their only appearance of the season with a 100-lap feature and Havoline Western Late Models will be racing in a 100-lap “double points” feature that will determine both the 2006 regular season points champion and the special HOTWOOD 1000 Series champion.

In addition, the American Limited Street Stocks division will coronate its 2006 champion with a “double points” feature, the gals will go at it in the annual Powder Puff Derby and the track will ring in the new school year with a Giant School Bus Race and Destruction Derby. The evening will conclude with a huge fireworks show!

Track officials would also like to extend a special invitation to former track legends that have made significant contributions to the 99 Speedway to attend the final event on September 16th  as guests of the track. The former drivers and special invitees will be introduced to the crowd, have an opportunity to talk to the fans about old times and sign autographs.
